The Hubble Deep Field Reveals a Supernova at z≃0.95

چکیده
We report the discovery of a variable object in the Hubble Deep Field North (HDF-N) which has brightened, during the 8.5 days sampled by the data, by more than 0.9 mag in I814 and about 0.7 mag in V606, remaining stable in B450. Subsequent observations of the HDF-N show that two years later this object has dimmed back to about its original brightness in I814. The colors of this object, its brightness, its time behavior in the various filters and the evolution of its morphology are consistent with being a Type Ib supernova in a faint galaxy at z ∼0.95.

Supernova Search is Realized in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field Survey
The Hubble Ultra Deep Field Survey has not only provided the deepest optical and near infrared views of universe, but has enabled a search for the most distant supernovae to z ∼ 2.2. We have found four supernovae by searching spans of integrations of the Ultra Deep Field and the Ultra Deep Field Parallels taken with the Hubble Space Telescope paired with the Advanced Camera for Surveys and the ...
متن کاملSupernovae in Deep Hubble Space Telescope Galaxy Cluster Fields: Cluster Rates and Field Counts
We have searched for high-redshift supernova (SN) candidates in multiple deep Hubble Space Telescope (HST) archival images of nine galaxy-cluster fields. We detect six apparent SNe, with 21.6 ≤ I814 ≤ 28.4 mag. There is roughly 1 SN per deep (I814 > 26 mag), doubly-imaged, WFPC2 cluster field. Two SNe are associated with cluster galaxies (at redshifts z = 0.18 and z = 0.83), three are probably ...
متن کاملGravitational Lensing of the Most Distant Known Super - nova , SN 1997
We investigate the effect of gravitational lensing on the farthest known supernova, SN1997ff. The SN was found at z ∼ 1.7 in the Hubble Deep Field North and is most likely of Type Ia. Due to our poor knowledge of the properties of the lensing foreground galaxies, we conclude that large magnification effects are possible for reasonable lens parameter values implying that this single SN does not ...
متن کاملHigh Redshift Supernovae in the Hubble Deep Field
Two supernovae detected in the Hubble Deep Field (HDF) using the original December 1995 epoch and data from a shorter (63000 s in F814W) December 1997 visit with HST are discussed. The supernovae (SNe) are both associated with distinct galaxies at redshifts of 0.95 (spectroscopic) from Cohen et al. (1996) and 1.32 (photometric) from the work of Fernández-Soto, Lanzetta, & Yahil (1998). These re...
متن کاملDiscovery of Two Distant Type Ia Supernovae in the Hubble Deep Field North with the Advanced Camera for Surveys
We present observations of the first two supernovae discovered with the recently installed Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The supernovae were found in Wide Field Camera images of the Hubble Deep Field North taken with the F775W, F850LP, and G800L optical elements as part of the ACS guaranteed time observation program. Spectra extracted from the ACS G800L ...
